A Famous Face in the audience...

 

Tonight’s session was a smaller group than initially planned with only 8 people in attendance, including a recognisable face for some, and while I won’t offer any identities – I’ll simply say that ‘A’, together with her producer friend ‘L’ were keen to view our performance to assess suitability for inclusion in an upcoming docuseries. How very exciting…

Daniel and Paige were keen to meet A beforehand, both familiar with and fans of her work but the awe seemed to come from other side, A gushing about her excitement in being part of the performance and unable to mask her admiration for the bravery and confidence of the two performance.

From there we started as normal, Daniel and Paige disrobed and took their positions on the floor among the group. I introduced the setting and the equipment in use, positioned the microphones and distributed the headphones. I then gave a quick run through of the props on offer for the evening, each offering a different sound and a different sensation when applied to the bodies, there were some slight giggles as my initial demonstration provoked stirs from both models as they adjusted to their performative state.

The performance began with more confidence from the audience than usual, perhaps the smaller group created a more intimate feel, each model attracting a smaller group who were able to focus more and spend more time with them. A & L both gravitated towards Daniel first, using some of the massage tools to roll around his upper body. I could tell immediately they were immersed in the piece, listening intently and closing their eyes to allow the sensory response to kick in.

There were 2 m/f couples in the group who both focused on Paige at the start, as usual beginning with the extremities, the hands and feet getting a sense of how much pressure to apply and what responses and sounds to listen out for. As the first half of the session moved on all participants grew in confidence and familiarity with model’s bodies, exploring further to the more sensitive and intimate areas.

I was especially pleased how happy A was to fully explore Daniels body, at one point sitting between his legs and navigating his upper thighs and abdomen with different tools, often a precursor to someone curious about the acceptability and potential risk of engaging with his genitals. L proved to be a bit more reserved, sitting at Daniel’s head offering the lightest to touch to provide soothing strokes and calming motions, perhaps her comfort zone was being tested.

Gradually after the first half hour the group moved between the models. The two couples now focusing on Daniel with the males as usual becoming more reserved. A engaged with Paige’s body in a similar way to Daniel, probing further and further towards her most intimate areas watching closely as she reacted. She confessed afterwards that the sense of control and power she had over the models made her a little uneasy at times, she found it difficult to reconcile their calmness and lack of reaction with her perception of how she would react in a similar state.

As the performance drew to a close the group took the last opportunity to use some of the tools they had perhaps avoided, to visit parts of the model’s bodies they had perhaps neglected, or just to revisit what felt best to them. This always provokes an interesting response from the audience, some take that last opportunity to push themselves out their comfort zone, every inch of the model’s bodies was touched and provoked in those last few minutes, A finishing her involvement again over Daniel and a full tour of his body, this time without hesitation.

After the performance we conducted a short Q&A for those who wanted to hang around, A & L keen to stay to talk with both the models. The questions were typical, always revolving around similar themes;  what does it feel like, what are your concerns, is it scary, is it arousing, does it not tickle, do you perform when you are on your period, do you ever get an erection, has anyone ever gone too far – Paige and Daniel answering honestly and enthusiastically despite the repetition that seems to follow every performance.

As for A, she and her producer loved the piece and what we are creating. She spoke about her wish to come back and possibly look at involving it in a future project, but that her preconceptions around the sexuality of the piece were perhaps unfounded. She did say it was far more beautiful and memorable than she could have imagined which filled me with happiness, she also could not leave with hugging both Daniel and Paige, telling them both they would stay in her thoughts for years to come.
